Random Thought For the Day

Has it ever been empirically proven that Humpty Dumpty was, in fact, some kind of egg?

Let's look closely at the evidence:

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall;
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

At what point are any egg-like qualities referred to, outside of his - or indeed, her - obvious delicate condition? Lots of things might not be able to be put back together again after they fall dramatically off a wall - a Ming vase, a porcelain china doll, an old sandwich toaster.

I think there's something in this for all of us.

Humpty D could also be a pseudonym. He could for example be Kym Beazley who ever sits on the fence/wall.
he has had, and will no doubt have again...a great fall. There seems little doubt that all the king's horses and all the king's men will be totally unable to put him together again!!

`You're holding it upside down!' Alice interrupted.

`To be sure I was!' Humpty Dumpty said gaily, as she turned it round for him. `I thought it looked a little queer.'

Trying not to be alarmist, reading between the lines, jumping to conclusions....are you having boy trouble again Sam?

Wow JT - that's some REALLY abstract concluding you've got going there :-)

Concern is appreciated though. And in fact, surprisingly, the boy department is one of the more functional ones for me these days.

Sorry QP, just that bit about things not being put back together again and your track record.

A little late to comment, but I believe this, like many nursery rhymes, has an historical basis - Humpty Dumpty's story is a reference to the plight of Cardinal Wolseley during the reign of Henry VIII.

Totally un-humpty related, but I just came across your blog via various random paths, and wanted to say "good stuff".

Cheers!

PS. I'm not selling cheap pharmaceuticals, nor do I wish you to open your bank account to me :-)
